In a recent interview, Insidious 6 director Jacob Chase revealed that becoming a father while making Out of the Further influenced the themes he included in the long-running franchise’s latest sequel. He also explained how the idea of “reliving the sins of your fathers” came into the film.
Jacob Chase becoming a father shaped Insidious: Out of the Further in a big way
While speaking with MovieWeb, writer and director Jacob Chase noted that welcoming his child during the production of Insidious 6 was a daunting experience for him, and it directly influenced the narrative of the film.
“I became a dad while writing this movie for the first time, and I was terrified about becoming a dad, and I definitely tapped into that in working on the script and the film,” he stated. “I think it taps into this feeling of the worst fear is reliving your past or reliving the sins of your fathers, or mothers in this case, to the film, and I think that’s something that honestly all the Insidious movies have tapped into a bit.”
Insidious: Out of the Further, the latest entry in the fan-favorite horror franchise, follows the journey of a young mother named Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, who inadvertently discovers that she can travel into a parallel dimension filled with spirits and demons, known as The Further. However, after a sinister entity pursues her, Gemma realizes that her ability also allows monsters from The Further to enter the real world.
Elaborating more on Out of the Further’s core themes, Chased added, “You can’t run from your past, and that’s ultimately what this movie is about. The inability to run from your past, run from your trauma. You have to face it, just like you have to face your own fears of the demons or your own past.”
Insidious 6 was released on August 21 and is currently playing in theaters.
