Sandra Bullock ‘Wasn’t Allowed’ to Speak About Late Partner Bryan Randall’s ALS Diagnosis

Sandra Bullock revealed that she was ‘not allowed’ to talk about Bryan Randall’s ALS diagnosis. Opening up about the loss of her partner, Bullock shared her memories following what she labelled as a ‘traumatic diagnosis.’

Bullock recently made an appearance on the Smartless podcast. Recalling Randall’s amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the 62-year-old actor pointed out, “I wasn’t allowed to speak about it. That was the request, and I tried – I honored it.” However, elaborating on her experience, the Hollywood actor stated that despite knowing the reason for Randall’s request, the 62-year-old reportedly struggled to keep such big news under wraps.

During the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bullock revealed that she felt isolated, and keeping the diagnosis secret became a ‘huge weight.’ Getting candid about her relationship with the photographer, Bullock also shared some more of her experience.

What else did Sandra Bullock say about Bryan Randall?

Randall, after being diagnosed with ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, had to fight a tough battle for three years. Unfortunately, the photographer ultimately gave in as he passed away at the age of 57, back in August 2023. Throughout this period, one person who constantly stayed beside Randall was Bullock. Recalling the period, the American actress pointed out that her partner was ailing for most of the time of their relationship. As a result of Randall’s illness, Bullock “started grieving Bryan four years before he passed.”

The Proposal actor detailed how the doctors carried out different tests on Randall, like the breath tests, grip tests, and more. While Bullock admitted that navigating and planning for whatever was coming was not difficult for her, she was worried about her children, who had to go through the same trauma and watch their father figure struggle with illness.

Bullock added, “You have to quietly plan. And I’m a very good planner with illness. It doesn’t scare me — not the illness itself, it doesn’t scare me. I can see and be around just about anything. But I had two young kids that were navigating it, especially a little girl who saw [Randall] as a father figure.” Bullock and Randal met back in 2015.

Sandra Bullock’s episode of SmartLess will be available on all podcast platforms on August 24.
