Don’t Miss: Sony’s Animalistic Sci-Fi Movie Is About To Leave Streaming

Sony‘s Kraven the Hunter is set to leave the streaming platform Netflix very soon. The movie reportedly serves as the final film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, separate from the mainline MCU, after its poor box-office performance. Kraven the Hunter was directed by JC Chandor and received a largely negative reception from critics following its release.

Kraven the Hunter is set to leave Netflix next month

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Sony movie, Kraven the Hunter, is leaving Netflix on September 14. Besides Johnson, the movie features stars like Russell Crowe, Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, and more.

Kraven the Hunter was another entry in Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff saga. However, it went on to become a financial failure at the box office. The movie opened with $11 million and earned around $25 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, the movie collected close to $37 million, bringing its lifetime total to $62 million.

On Rotten Tomatoes, critics bashed the movie after its release, giving it a 15 percent Tomatometer score. On the other hand, on Popcornmeter, Kraven the Hunter received a score of 72 percent based on audience ratings.

After the movie’s poor box office performance, Sony reportedly halted operations related to its standalone Spider-Man Universe. The movie even beat Sony’s Madame Web for the worst opening for a film from the studio’s Spider-Man spinoff universe. Former Sony Pictures CEO, Tony Vinciquerra spoke with the Los Angeles Times in December 2024 and blamed the movie’s failure on critics. He said, “For some reason, the press decided that they didn’t want us making these films out of Kraven and Madame Web, and the critics just destroyed them.” He stated that Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web were not “terrible films” in his view. Vinciquerra asserted that the movies were targeted by the critics and “were just destroyed in the press, for some reason.”
