Darren Criss has landed an unexpected role in Disney’s upcoming crossover movie. The Glee star will play Jiminy Cricket in Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story.
According to Deadline, the upcoming film brings together characters from across Disney’s popular franchises. Its adult cast also includes Sherry Cola as Yzma, James Monroe Iglehart as Genie, Hugo Ateo as Kronk, Sean Yves Lessard as Lumiere, and Dan Bakkedahl as Yen Sid.
The younger cast includes Dior Goodjohn as Jennie, Momona Tamada as Zara, and Jacob Rodriguez as Kronk Jr. Eva Fossaceca Smedley, Harry Jones, and the Potts siblings also appear in the movie.
The official logline says, “Hidden in the center of each fairy tale is a portal to a secret training facility where the descendants of legendary sidekicks are challenged to join the elite ranks of partners to heroes. When a villainous duo comes to Sidekick Academy, a group of fresh recruits must band together (without heroes, without parents) using only their new skills to save the fairytale realm before it’s too late.”
Tamara Chestna, Eydie Faye, and Emma Fletcher wrote the screenplay. Jude Weng directs the movie, which is produced by Disney Kids & Family.
What other projects has Darren Criss starred in besides Glee?
Criss rose to fame as Blaine Anderson on Glee. The role became one of his most recognizable television performances. He later reunited with Ryan Murphy for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, in which he played Andrew Cunanan. The 39-year-old actor also won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for the role.
His other television work includes Murphy’s Hollywood, while his film credits include Girl Most Likely and Midway. Beyond television and film, Criss has built an extensive Broadway career. He appeared in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and later starred in Maybe Happy Ending.
Criss also voiced Superman in multiple DC animated films. These include Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Justice Society: World War II, Legion of Super-Heroes, Justice League: Warworld, and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
The upcoming Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story does not have a confirmed release date right now.
