United States Attorney General Todd Blanche recently commented on the disappearance case of Nancy Guthrie and suggested there is no need for an FBI takeover. Nancy, who is the mother of Today show broadcaster Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her home on February 1, 2026, after which she was reported missing.

Donald Trump’s Attorney General made a few comments surrounding the case of Nancy Guthrie while speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press with host Kristen Welker.
Blanche called Guthrie’s disappearance a “horrible situation” and went on to express his frustration with the case. He said, “I share the grief and the frustration that you and your colleagues have, and the whole country has, in this situation.” When asked whether the FBI would take over the case from local Arizona authorities, Blanche added that if it does, the Trump administration will be “there to support.”
However, he suggested, “Whether we come in with sharp elbows and take it over, that’s not necessarily the right thing to do for her.”
Blanche also added that Trump and FBI head Kash Patel have “pledged” to provide all the assistance and resources required for the investigation. He said the administration is leaving no stone unturned and working hard in coordination with local and state authorities. This includes not only workforce support but also “any sort of forensic assistance.”
Welker also asked Blanche if there is any update on the case. To this, the Attorney General replied, “Sorry to say, I wish I had an update, and I know that this type of case is heartbreaking, especially when it plays out nationally, like this one has.”
Sheriff Chris Nanos of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is currently leading the investigation of Guthrie’s disappearance.
