Nancy Guthrie Investigation Gets Huge Human Remains Update

Nancy Guthrie’s case has taken another tense turn after authorities responded to human remains found in the Arizona desert. The discovery came roughly 15 miles from the missing 84-year-old’s home near Tucson. However, investigators quickly separated the remains from Guthrie’s disappearance. A more definitive report now says the bones do not belong to her.

Human remains found 15 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home are definitively not hers

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in an Aug. 17 update on X that search-and-rescue deputies responded to human remains near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard. Officials said the remains appeared to have been there for an “extended period of time.”

The department added that there was no indication the discovery was connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation. Meanwhile, TMZ cited law enforcement sources with direct knowledge who went further. One source told the outlet that investigators on the ground had determined the bones were “definitively not Nancy Guthrie.”

The update closes off one alarming possibility, but it does not resolve Nancy’s disappearance. Savannah Guthrie’s mother has been missing since early February, and investigators have yet to announce a breakthrough that explains where she is.

Investigators also ruled out hair evidence from Nancy’s home as pointing to a suspect. As a result, the case still lacks a publicly identified suspect.

Earlier, a former FBI agent urged investigators to search the Arizona desert more extensively for evidence connected to the case. The discovery of unrelated remains does not confirm that theory. Still, it shows why new findings in the area can draw immediate attention.

The Nancy Guthrie case has also remained complicated by ransom notes. Previous coverage detailed one message claiming Nancy had died and was “buried in nature”. Authorities have not confirmed that claim.

For now, the newly discovered human remains appear to belong to another unidentified person. Still, the search for answers continues.
