King Charles reportedly blocked Meghan Markle from traveling to Balmoral on the day of Queen Elizabeth‘s death. The monarch was said to have acted after learning the Duchess of Sussex intended to accompany Prince Harry. A new report cited author Tom Bower’s account of the late Queen’s final hours. It claimed past choices shaped why Meghan was deemed “unwelcome” during one of the royal family’s most sensitive days.
King Charles stepped in to block Meghan Markle from joining royal family on an important day, per author
As per an Express report, the claim came from Tom Bower’s book, “Betrayal.” The book revisited Queen Elizabeth’s final hours at Balmoral on September 8, 2022. According to the report, King Charles was told his mother was gravely ill. He then called Prince William and Prince Harry. Both were reportedly told to board a private jet at RAF Northolt. Harry and Meghan Markle were then at Frogmore Cottage.
Meanwhile, Bower claimed Charles intervened when he learned that Meghan intended to travel as well. The author wrote, “When Charles heard that Meghan intended to come, he called Harry.” Bower then claimed Charles called that plan “unacceptable.”
The report said the refusal was tied to Meghan’s past choices involving Queen Elizabeth. Bower wrote that Meghan had refused the Queen’s invitations to Balmoral during her lifetime. He claimed she was therefore “unwelcome at her death.”
However, the report also included the Sussexes’ response to Bower’s broader work. A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan said his commentary had “crossed the line.” The statement accused him of moving from “criticism into fixation.”
It also said people seeking “facts will look elsewhere.” Still, Bower claimed Charles believed sharing grief with Meghan was “unthinkable.”
The author also wrote that Charles thought the late monarch remained shocked by Harry’s “disloyalty.” To defuse the argument, Charles reportedly said Catherine would also remain in Windsor. For King Charles and Meghan Markle, the account framed Queen Elizabeth’s death as a moment shaped by old tensions.
