Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning’s new Paramount+ thriller has an exciting update for fans. The eight-episode legal thriller Discretion has officially begun production. Directed by Matt Shakman, the upcoming series is based on Chandler Baker’s short story and also stars Josh Lucas.
Along with the production announcement, the show has also added two more members to its cast. Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Stephan James is joining the ensemble alongside Colton Ryan. They will play Logan and Boone, respectively. James’ character becomes a mentor to Fanning’s character, Lenny, while Boone is her ex-boyfriend, a recovering addict who is trying to rebuild his life.
The A24 show is expected to premiere globally on Paramount+ in 2027. Moreover, Shakman is also serving as one of the executive producers and will direct the first four episodes.

Chandler Baker brings her bestselling storytelling to the legal thriller
New York Times bestselling author Chandler Baker also serves as a writer and executive producer. She is known for her novels Whisper Network and The Husbands. Oscar-nominated writer-producer Susannah Grant is also among the executive producers of this project.
The story follows Lenny, a summer associate at a top Dallas law firm. She discovers a series of NDAs that appear to hide a dark secret. Lenny soon realizes that she signed the same agreement. Her discovery puts her at odds with Sharon, Kidman’s powerful senior partner. Their mentor-protege relationship then takes an unexpected turn.
Kidman and Fanning also executive produce the series through their respective production companies, Blossom Films and Lewellen Pictures. They are joining Discretion after working on major projects of their own.
Kidman is currently starring in Season 3 of the Paramount+ spy thriller Lioness, where she plays CIA supervisor Kaitlyn Meade. Fanning was last seen in Predator: Badlands, playing a Weyland-Yutani synthetic who teams up with a Predator. The film was released in theaters in November 2025.
