Prince George’s brief exchange with his father, Prince William, has become a major talking point. A single-word answer from the young prince prompted the Prince of Wales to step in. The moment, seen during a recent public appearance, highlighted the easy dynamic between the royal father-son duo.
Prince William intervenes after Prince George’s blunt response to reporter
Prince George’s direct reply to TV presenter Gethin Jones prompted Prince William to step in during their chat at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The 44-year-old Prince was in Glasgow on Saturday with his family, watching netball and cycling events during a public outing.
The day was seen as a milestone, with Prince Louis now old enough to take part in the activities alongside the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte. The family met tournament mascot Finnie the Unicorn during the busy visit. Prince George’s siblings also had a go at updating the live medal tally.
The family met athletes at Wales House, Team Wales’ hub, where a question from presenter Jones to the children led the royal heir to intervene. Princess Catherine shared that they had just met five-time Olympic gold-medal cyclist Dame Laura Kenny, who tried to convince her and Prince William to give track cycling a go.
She, according to the Daily Express, added, “Be careful what you wish for, as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome.”
The presenter then directed a question to each of the three children. “Would you like to see mum and dad on a tandem in the velodrome later?” he asked, to which Prince George replied straight away: “No.” That blunt answer prompted William to jump in, admitting with a laugh: “We embarrass you enough as it is.”
The Waleses began the day cheering Jamaica’s stunning netball semi-final victory over Australia at The Hydro. They then visited the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, where they met Sir Chris Hoy and Dame Laura Kenny alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. The day’s sporting action concluded with the judo finals at the Scottish Event Campus.
