King Charles made a dramatic entry alongside Queen Camilla to open the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The entry was inspired by the iconic British TV series, Doctor Who. The royal couple emerged from the TARDIS, a fictional time machine and spacecraft from the popular science fiction series.
Charles formally inaugurated the Games as the Head of the Commonwealth. The event will include 10 sports with 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories competing. It will also feature six Para sports during the 11-day event.

The opening ceremony commenced with an interesting video clip. In the clip, the organizers described the TARDIS as “the world’s most famous police box” traveling through Scotland. It traveled to iconic spots in Scotland like Loch Ness, the Kelpies, and Edinburgh Castle. Finally, the time machine picked King Charles and Queen Camilla up at Balmoral Castle (via ABC News).
After the video ended, the TARDIS appeared on stage inside the Hydro arena, and Charles and Camilla walked out of it and took their seats in the royal box. Interestingly, the King’s mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, also participated in the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Her thrilling appearance included a video of her reportedly skydiving into the stadium from a helicopter. Then James Bond star Daniel Craig accompanied her.
