Oprah Winfrey faced fresh criticism after revisiting her 2021 interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The media mogul recently explained one key follow-up from the viral sit-down, which lasted three and a half hours.
A TalkTV discussion then questioned whether she challenged the Sussexes enough. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield claimed Oprah was now “trying to rewrite history” around the interview and its most disputed moments.
Oprah Winfrey ‘trying to rewrite history’ with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview, claims expert
As per TalkTV’s July 24 YouTube clip, Kevin O’Sullivan discussed Oprah Winfrey’s new Vanity Fair appearance. He said Oprah revealed the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview took “three and a half hours” to record.
O’Sullivan argued that she “never challenged them” during major claims. He cited the moment Meghan said she was “silenced.” Oprah asked, “Were you silent or were you silenced?” Meghan replied, “The latter.” O’Sullivan said the next question should have been, “Who silenced you?”
Meanwhile, Kinsey Schofield said Oprah could have avoided revisiting the interview altogether. She argued the subject remained controversial and “not a great reflection” of Oprah. Schofield claimed, “Oprah knows that Meghan lied 17 times.”
She added, “She’s seen the headlines.” The royal commentator also said Oprah understood “what the repercussions were.” However, she framed the new comments as a matter of reputation control, not simple clarification.
Still, the strongest claim came when Schofield assessed Oprah’s motive. She said, “She’s trying to rewrite history.” Schofield added that Oprah did not want to be remembered as “a weak interviewer.”
Later, O’Sullivan said Oprah appeared to be “trying to wipe the slate clean.” He also called the sit-down “remarkably uninquisitive.” For context, the 2021 interview became a major royal media moment after the Sussexes’ move to the US. For Oprah Winfrey, the latest round of expert criticism focused less on securing the interview. It focused more on what she did not ask.
