Amid the delay surrounding Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, speculation over who might portray the DCU version of the Caped Crusader continues to dominate conversations. Rumors claim that Mitchell Slaggert, who plays Ryder Sampson in the Paramount+ series Landman, is a prominent contender, but this has already been disputed.
Latest rumors on Mitchell Slaggert’s DCU Batman casting
During a recent episode of his The John Campea Show, the host discussed Slaggert’s potential casting as the DCU Batman. Campea made it quite clear early in the video that all this was just speculation and urged the viewers to “file this firmly under the rumor mill.”
He also said he didn’t have much confidence in this and that it wasn’t him reporting a news story. Campea then revealed that he had heard that the DCU might be looking into Slaggert for Batman.
Notably, Slaggert is in his early 30s, and as Campea noted, appears “jacked” in recent photos. “Now, this would run pretty consistent with how James Gunn has cast,” Campea said, before pointing out that, before his Superman casting, David Corenswet was also not a huge name. He noted that Slaggert was “age-appropriate” and “definitely got the looks” to play the character.
However, in the same episode, Campea clarified that he didn’t “buy” this particular morsel of rumor because he believed that The Brave and the Bold wouldn’t happen and that James Gunn would leave DC after his contract expired.
Meanwhile, on The Hot Mic podcast, Jeff Sneider outright dismissed the prospects of Slaggert or Tom Brittney being up for the DCU Batman, saying a simple “no” in answer. Given these responses, Batman’s casting in the DC Universe remains unclear.
Before Landman, Slaggert had worked on both movies and other TV shows. He has portrayed Paul Middlebrook in the 2017 feature Wish Upon and Stef in 2018’s Write When You Get Work. He has also starred in HBO Max’s Gossip Girl.
The Brave and the Bold doesn’t yet have an official release date.
