The Batman 2’s Scarlett Johansson Rumor Changes Everything We Thought of DC Sequel

A new rumor on Scarlett Johansson’s role in The Batman 2 suggests a massive shake-up. Should the report turn out true, everything we know of the movie would change.

Recently, a rumor originating from the DCU Leaks subreddit on Reddit claimed that Johansson would be playing the role of Poison Ivy in the upcoming sequel to The Batman. The report suggests that Johansson will play the main villain in the movie, and will be a killer obsessed with the use of plants and toxins. Much like The Batman’s take on The Riddler, this would be a more grounded take on Poison Ivy

While not directly confirmed, this also aligns with previous reports on the state of The Batman’s universe from Jeff Sneider. In a recent episode of the Hot Mic with John Rocha, Sneider mentioned that a Poison Ivy series set in Reeves’ universe is in development. The show would follow a similar model to The Penguin, which served as a bridge between The Batman films.

Scarlett Johansson’s rumored The Batman 2 role could flip the movie on its head

Previously, all reporting surrounding The Batman 2 suggested that the upcoming DC sequel would focus largely on the family of Harvey Dent. Rumors suggested that Harvey and his father, Christopher (rumored to be played by Charles Dance) would not only be in the movie, but that the movie would focus heavily on the Dent’s relationship with Bruce Wayne, specifically Harvey and Bruce’s relationship, which gets complicated once Dent becomes Two-Face.

If Ivy is the main villain of the movie, however, a lot of this changes. Should Johansson actually be playing Ivy, this means we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the movie than we previously thought. This also means that we might not be seeing as much of the Dent family as reported. Rumors have already begun floating that Sebastian Stan might not end up playing the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the movie, but instead would be Victor Zsasz. These two pieces of news would link a bit more clearly if true, and suggest we’re in for a movie that’s more about a litany of villains versus one specific one.

Director Matt Reeves already took the concept of The Riddler and turned it into a much grittier version of the comic villain. Ivy would require similar changes, and could work given the nature of plants and how some do carry real-life toxins. Of course, Reeves could be purposely misconstruing information to lead folks away from the film’s real plot, so we’ll have to wait to see.
