The Donald Trump administration spent more than $150,000 of taxpayer money to hoist massive banners featuring the president’s face during the Freedom 250 event, as per the statements of a Democratic senator. The politician, hailing from Massachusetts, claimed to have recovered evidence of Trump’s exuberant spending on giant posters in Washington, DC, that seemingly breach federal laws against propaganda.
Adam Schiff says federal agencies used taxpayer money for large Donald Trump portraits across Washington
In a statement released on July 13, Senator Adam Schiff of California revealed that he had dug out two contracts issued by the Donald Trump administration for his Freedom 250 banners that totaled up to $153,020.
Schiff noted that the president’s team splurged $39,000 on behalf of the Department of the Interior and another $114,020 in the Federal Aviation Administration’s name to set up giant Donald Trump posters on government buildings in celebration of the country’s 250th Independence Day.
“The Trump administration is spending hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars to glorify and pay tribute to a sitting US President and his political agenda,” the former assistant US attorney noted, as per The Independent.
The senator continued, “Not only is this a terrible waste of Americans’ hard-earned money, it is clearly against the law. Congress has long outlawed spending tax dollars on propaganda and self-aggrandizement and an eight-story high Donald Trump head certainly qualifies as propaganda.”
Schiff also named the recipient of the aforementioned funds in his statement. He disclosed the identity of the firm: a Maryland-based organization called Grafik Industries, Ltd.
A slew of banners featuring Donald Trump’s face have gone up in front of government establishments in the past few weeks, including the Departments of Agriculture, Labor, Interior, and Justice. In total, these promotions in Washington, DC, including those specified by Schiff, have reportedly depleted more than $175,000 from federal funds.
