Fox News host Jesse Watters and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent‘s latest comments on several members of the Trump administration simultaneously welcoming babies, in reference to the Trump Accounts program, don’t seem to have sat well with netizens. While the duo seemed to issue their NSFW statements in jest, several users have viewed the quips as distasteful.
Jesse Watters and Scott Bessent joked about the Donald Trump administration ‘having a lot of babies’
During his recent appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, Scott Bessent shared a rather contentious joke about the Donald Trump administration members stepping into parenthood at the same time of late.
At one point in the interview, Watters said to his guest, “We’re having a lot of babies. We want people to have babies during the Trump administration.” In response, Bessent agreed to Watters’ statement before highlighting how Vice President JD Vance and White House staffers like Karoline Leavitt and Stephen Miller have welcomed or are expecting children at the moment, as per Acyn.
“Exactly. The vice president has done it, the chief of staff, Karoline Leavitt, Stephen Miller,” he noted. Jesse Watters then made a quip about the coincidental phenomenon with the Donald Trump administration, noting, “You guys are very busy,” prompting Bessent to say, “We know what their hobby is.”
The NSFW joke has drawn criticism from netizens, in part due to its relevance to the Trump Accounts initiative. The program is a tax-advantaged investment account initiative that, in essence, encourages childbearing by providing a $1,000 federal deposit into tax-deferred savings for babies born between 2025 and 2028.
Social media users called out Bessent and Watters’ line of conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with one critic writing, “What a bunch of freaks.” Another user fired shots at the Treasury Secretary, who has fathered two children, born through surrogacy, with his husband, by saying, “He’s a gay man worth $500 million. Absolute nonsense.” Meanwhile, a third X user stated, “Two of the creepiest man to ever exist.”
