Pete Hegseth Says Military Will Screen Troops’ Testosterone Levels

Pete Hegseth has announced a new testosterone screening program for U.S. soldiers. The Defense Secretary stated that the health assessment will detect testosterone deficiencies and recommend therapy accordingly.

Pete Hegseth says annual health assessments will include testosterone screening for older service members

In an X post on July 15, Pete Hegseth announced a new testosterone screening program for older service members. In a video captioned, “The High-T Department of War,” the Defense Secretary said that the screening will measure the testosterone levels of all soldiers.

The screening program’s primary focus is on “restoring and optimizing your natural capabilities, protecting your longevity, and ensuring you have the biological foundation required to sustain the fight.”

Hegseth announced, “At the Department of War, we have the most elite warriors on the face of the Earth.” He added, “Every single day, you are pushed to your absolute physical and mental limits to master the profession of arms. We demand your all, and you give it.”

The Defense Secretary continued, “But while we invest heavily in our weapons systems, platforms, and gear, our most decisive tactical advantage will always be the individual warfighter.” He added, “We have a sacred duty to maintain that advantage. Which is why we must constantly look for new ways to optimize your performance, your resilience, and your long-term health.”

The new screening will be a part of the soldiers’ annual “periodic health assessments.” Testing is optional for service members under 30. Those with low testosterone levels may opt for hormone replacement therapy.

Hegseth went on to explain, “This initiative, it’s not about artificial enhancement. We owe our warriors the absolute best medical care in the world, and this program delivers on that obligation.” He added, “Taking care of your long-term health means ensuring you remain strong, resilient, and capable, not just for your next deployment, but for the rest of your life, so you can thrive long after you take off the uniform.”
