Hasan Piker just dropped the most unhinged strategy to get a health update on Mitch McConnell. The progressive streamer made a bizarre claim about the senator during his Twitch broadcast amid growing concerns over McConnell’s weeks-long public absence.
Hasan Piker drops bizarre joke about Mitch McConnell
Hasan Piker, the progressive political streamer, joked about having an affair with Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) during his Wednesday Twitch stream. Piker used the bit to highlight growing concerns about the 84-year-old senator’s health and public absence. The streamer claimed he “was sexting him last night” and dared McConnell to respond publicly.
“Go ahead, Mitch. Deny the relationship if you can,” Piker said during the broadcast. He added, “Oh really, you got a problem? Deny it. He can’t. He’s shy.” The comedian framed the joke as a creative way to coax McConnell into making a public appearance.
McConnell has not appeared publicly since June 14 after emergency services responded to his Washington, D.C., home. Dispatchers received a call about an “unconscious person” believed to have suffered a heart attack at the address. Audio from the dispatch, made public on July 1, revealed a medic confirming “CPR in progress” before additional personnel arrived (via HuffPost).
The senator’s office has shared limited details about his current condition since the hospitalization. McConnell plans to end his four-decade Senate career when his term concludes in January. He has faced several health challenges in recent years, including a 2023 concussion from a serious fall.
Piker also questioned CNN contributor Scott Jennings’ claim of speaking with McConnell by phone during his recovery. Jennings’ account matched stories from other prominent Republicans who described 20-minute conversations with the senator. Those reported discussions allegedly covered topics including Iran and Democratic Party developments.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear sent a letter on Wednesday pleading for “transparency” about McConnell’s condition. Beshear said citizens of the Bluegrass State are “increasingly concerned” about the senator’s well-being. President Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he has “no idea” how McConnell is doing.
