Sources suggest that the aftermath of the cancellation of The Late Show has begun to hit Stephen Colbert. They say that he appeared low during his attendance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding. Moreover, the sources also noted that Colbert is maintaining a low profile to figure out what’s next. The 62-year-old is currently writing the Lord of the Rings project.
Stephen Colbert is ‘frustrated’ after The Late Show, sources suggest
Sources told Naughty But Nice that Stephen Colbert seems to be “frustrated” following the cancellation of The Late Show. This is because they believe that it was not just a random chat show but his identity, built over the years. “Stephen poured everything into that show. Losing it has hit him hard.”
Insiders noted that the emotional impact of the cancellation was evident when Colbert attended Swift and Kelce’s wedding ceremony. They revealed that he didn’t appear to be in good spirits. He had been low-key since the show’s production wrapped up.
Another source elaborated, “He’s always been the one holding everyone else together. Now he’s the one who needs time. He’s stepped away to figure out what comes next.” They claimed that writing is “saving” him and giving him a means to channel everything he is feeling.
A few months back, Colbert did share his positive outlook on the show’s cancellation. He said, “It takes a lot of bone marrow to do the show every day, and now I’ll be stepping down with enough time and enough energy to do other things that I want to do.” He expressed that he wants to spend time with his kids and devote energy to fulfilling his fatherhood responsibilities, which he struggled with earlier due to his hectic schedule.
Revealing what’s next in his career, Colbert said he had earlier brought up the idea of LOTR but didn’t have time to work on it. However, the show’s cancellation had given some time to dedicate to this project. “As much as I love it, I knew I couldn’t do that [film] and do the show at the same time. But it turns out I’m going to be free starting this summer.”
Colbert intends to adapt the next LOTR film from chapters three to eight of The Fellowship of the Ring (via the BBC).
