Children of Blood & Bone Author Will Not Promote Movie Adaptation: ‘There’s a Reason’

Children of Blood and Bone writer Tomi Adeyemi has revealed in a new social media post that she will neither promote nor watch the upcoming movie adaptation of her novel. Notably, the film features an all-star cast that includes Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Damson Idris, Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Amandla Stenberg, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Regina King, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Adeyemi wrote the script with director Gina Prince-Bythewood. The news comes after the movie debuted its first trailer at CinemaCon back in April.

Tomi Adeyemi says she won’t watch her own Children of Blood and Bone movie

Adeyemi took to TikTok to clear the air on why she no longer shares any social media posts about the Children of Blood and Bone movie. “For everyone who’s been asking – I’m answering this question once and for all,” the caption of the video reads. In the clip, the author included screenshots of what look like messages she shared with various individuals and groups. One screenshot seemingly shows a message that the author sent to an unidentified group of people.

“There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That’s all,” the message said. “From this point on, if you want to support me, you can purchase any edition of the trilogy at a local independent children’s bookstore,” Adeyemi shared in the message.

Another screenshot seems to show a message from Adeyemi to Stenberg. She apparently asked the 27-year-old actress not to “ever use my name in an interview or video again.” She added, “Do not text me. Do not call me.” Further, the image indicates that Adeyemi has blocked The Hunger Games star. While messages in the first screenshot had the timestamp of June 25, the one in the second was dated February 2025.

The third and final screenshot again featured her message to an unidentified group. “Since someone asked, I have not seen the film, and I will not watch it.” She wrote, elaborating, “It’s been painful holding this back from you all.” Adeyemi continued, “And I’m sorry if any of you thought I didn’t care. I will always care about US. More than any glitter.”

While Adeyemi didn’t provide further details on why she has decided to step away from the movie, she told one fan that she didn’t mind people going to watch it. She added, “I wrote this for us. I fought for us. I’m just laying down my sword and officially separating my name because I can’t keep being hurt and attacked behind the scenes.”

Children of Blood and Bone premieres in the US on January 15, 2027.
