Pedro Pascal and Mark Hamill, two of the most prominent actors of the Star Wars franchise, worked together on a completely different sci-fi feature in recent years. That movie is now coming to Prime Video.
The Wild Robot to stream on Prime Video very soon
The 2024 animated family sci-fi film The Wild Robot will debut on Prime Video on July 24, 2026, according to TV Guide. The movie is an adaptation of Peter Brown’s 2016 novel of the same name. Chris Sanders directed the film from a script he wrote. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, The Wild Robot had its world premiere on September 8, 2024, at the 49th annual Toronto International Film Festival. Universal Pictures released the movie in US theaters on September 27, 2024.
The movie’s plot revolves around a robot who forms bonds with the local wildlife of an island where she has been shipwrecked. The robot also shoulders the duties of an adoptive mother of an orphaned Barnacle goose. Pascal voices a red fox named Fink, whereas Hamill lends his voice to a grizzly bear named Thorn.
Additionally, the movie’s voice cast includes Lupita Nyong’o as the shipwrecked robot Roz, Kit Connor as Brightbill, Catherine O’Hara as Pinktail, Bill Nighy as Longneck, Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, Matt Berry as Paddler, and Ving Rhames as Thunderbolt.
Following its release, the movie garnered critical acclaim. It currently has a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Pete Hammond of Deadline stated in his review, “If Spielberg’s E.T. had been an animated film instead, it might resemble what writer-director Chris Sanders has created here. However, Wild Robot weaves its own magic, and for that we can all cry tears of joy.”
The Wild Robot was commercially successful as well, earning $334.5 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). It also received three Oscar nominations, including one for Best Animated Feature.
