JD Vance has opened up about Christianity and how his faith influences his method of governing. The vice president recently shared his candid views on the matter during an interview about his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.
How JD Vance connects immigration, wages, and Christian teaching
JD Vance recently sat down for an interview with The Ingraham Angle this week to discuss his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. During the conversation, the vice president spoke about whether his faith has influenced his policies under the Trump administration.
“My faith really motivates me towards [remembering that] our economic policy, it doesn’t exist for corporations. It doesn’t exist for Wall Street. As much as we want everybody to be successful, it exists to support the dignity of human beings,” Vance said. “We want every American to be able to raise a family to be able to support themselves in comfort and in dignity. That’s why we’re trying to bring investment and manufacturing back to the United States of America.”
The vice president added, “That’s why we don’t want low-wage foreigners coming in and undercutting the wages of American workers. We want normal Americans to be able to live a dignified life, and I think that’s a very, very Christian concept.”
However, the statement soon sparked backlash online with many netizens criticizing Vance’s “low-wage foreigners” remark. One X user said, “Arrest ONE farmer who employs a ‘low wage’ illegal working in the farms – then watch how food inflation goes through the roof.” Another user said that Vance’s statement is “the opposite of christian.”
Vance has shown regret for making some controversial remarks in the past. In his new book, the VP said that his past “childless cat ladies” comment about prominent Democrats was “boneheaded” and “a clear moment where I failed.” “One of the dumbest things I ever said came when I argued that ‘childless cat ladies’ across the Democrat Party were running our country into the ground,” Vance wrote.
