2026’s $371M Horror Sensation Is Now Available to Watch at Home

A $750K indie horror film became the year’s most unlikely blockbuster. Now audiences can finally stream it from their couches while it continues to dominate theaters.

Obsession just got its digital release after a smashing box office run that’s still not over

Obsession arrives on digital platforms on June 30, 2026, following a historic theatrical run. Focus Features scheduled the digital release as the film continues its remarkable box office performance. The supernatural horror film has grossed $371 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo.

Curry Barker directed the film on a budget of just $750,000. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025. Focus Features then acquired the distribution rights for $14 to $15 million, marking the highest price a genre film commanded in TIFF history.

Obsession opened theatrically in the United States on May 15, 2026, in 2,615 theaters. The film debuted to $17.2 million, finishing third behind holdovers Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2. It then earned $24 million in its second weekend, a 39% increase from its opening frame.

The film became the first wide release outside of the Christmas season since E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to increase its earnings for three consecutive weekends. Word-of-mouth and turnout from the 18-to-34 demographic drove its unprecedented growth at the box office. That age group made up 75% of audience members during its theatrical run.

Focus Features initially planned a digital release for June 2 but postponed the date. The film has since become Focus Features’ highest-grossing title of all time worldwide, surpassing Downton Abbey’s $194.6 million total. It also outgrossed The Blair Witch Project’s $248.6 million to become the top-grossing festival acquisition title ever.

Obsession currently holds a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 282 critics’ reviews. Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave it an average grade of A-minus. The film ranks as the eighth-highest-grossing movie of 2026, with $234 million earned domestically and $137 million internationally.
