Clayface Rumor Suggests How Big a Role Batman Will Play in DCU Movie

A new rumor may have shed light on how big a role Batman will play in the upcoming Clayface movie. Following Supergirl, Clayface will be the third film set in the DCU.

What is the new Clayface rumor regarding Batman?

Clayface is obviously a Batman villain, so people are naturally wondering if Batman will show up in the film. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the Dark Knight won’t even be mentioned in the film. It should be noted that this is only a rumor, and it should be treated as such at this time, as DC Studios has not formally announced any plans regarding Batman in the Clayface movie.

If true, it could make sense as Clayface will be a standalone film, and the DCU has yet to cast its Batman. However, Gotham’s Caped Crusader has already shown up in the DCU before, if only as a silhouette in Creature Commandos.

Following Supergirl’s underwhelming critical and box office performance, it’s possible that DC Studios will prioritize introducing its Batman. Clayface is reportedly undergoing reshoots, so adding Batman to the film this late in the process wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. According to one report, DC Studios may have already cast its Batman actor ahead of Clayface’s release.

Regardless, the film has always been positioned as a singular horror story, one that wasn’t even in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s initial plans when the DCU started. Gunn previously confirmed that the film will be set earlier in the DCU’s timeline.

With the DCU facing an uncertain start, part of its future may depend on Clayface’s reception. The film will introduce audiences to the DCU’s version of Gotham City, which is, of course, Bruce Wayne’s home. The film could help establish the look of Gotham and its inhabitants within the DCU. Whether or not Batman appears in Clayface, fans of the character are getting a lot of projects involving the caped crusader in the near future.

Clayface is directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan. It stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, the film’s disturbing protagonist. The film also recently added a Breaking Bad star in a mystery role.

Clayface opens in theaters on October 23, 2026.
