Melania Trump once pushed back against claims she married Donald Trump for money, per report

A recent report by Hello! Magazine revisits how Melania Trump once pushed back against claims that she married Donald Trump for his wealth. In 1999, the former model appeared in an ABC interview shortly after she and Donald publicly confirmed their romance.

During an interview with Don Dahler, she discussed her relationship and dismissed suggestions that she was with him for his money. Melania said, “You know, the people, they don’t know me.” She reiterated, “People who talk like this, they don’t know me.” The journalist pressed further, saying, “Well, you don’t see many 26-year-old supermodels on the arm of a 53-year-old car mechanic.”

Melania remained composed but gave a befitting response. She said, “You know what, you can’t sleep or to hug or to talk with beautiful things, with beautiful apartment, beautiful plane, beautiful cars, beautiful houses, you can’t do that.” The author added, “You could feel very empty.” She further emphasized that anyone who believes she was with Donald because of his wealth and fame simply does not know her.

Melania has always emphasized the importance of independence. She appeared in an interview with Fox News in 2025. The current First Lady of the United States said that people often see her just as the wife of the President; however, she describes herself as highly “independent.” She added that she has her own beliefs and thoughts and does not always agree with what her husband has to say, “and that’s OK.”
