Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair reportedly ran into some technical difficulties on Thursday. The event experienced a power cut, which melted the dessert vendors’ ice cream at the fair. The recently reported incident quickly went viral on social media.
The Great American State Fair food hall lost power on opening day
Fox 5 DC reporter Homa Bash shared a short clip on X (formerly Twitter) from Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair. Bash revealed there was a power cut at the event, which led to the dessert vendors dealing with melted ice cream. “Food hall at Great American State Fair has lost power – they have food but tell me all their ice cream has melted?” the reporter tweeted.
Reporter Ben Brasch has also shared some photos from the State Fair on X, mentioning the power cut. “The weekday, daytime crowd here at the Great American State Fair is light,” he wrote. Brasch then revealed, “Speaking of light, the lights keep turning off and then power back up in one of the food tents.”
On Wednesday, USA Today reported that the power outage at the State Fair also led to a pretzel shortage. Vendors had to temporarily pause selling stuffed pretzel rolls following the power cut. Workers told the outlet that they had to wait for an additional 30 minutes after the power returned before they could heat up more rolls.
The Great American State Fair is part of Trump’s Freedom 250 celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. The event kicked off on June 25 and will conclude on July 10. The president inaugurated the event with a 30-minute speech.
“Now we are the hottest country anywhere in the world,” Trump boasted during the speech, adding, “Nobody’s laughing at us anymore.” The president had initially planned a 16-day concert series for the Freedom 250 event. However, after many musicians declined to participate, Trump announced that he would headline a rally at the National Mall to kick off the State Fair.
