Donald Trump Says He Would ‘Like’ to Run Again in 2028

President Donald Trump once again raised the idea of running in 2028, despite the term limits established by the U.S. Constitution. Throughout his term, Trump has repeatedly suggested that he would like to run for a third term, something that would conflict with the current constitutional limit of two elected terms. The 80-year-old president made the remarks to a crowd in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, drawing loud cheers.

In yet another instance, President Donald Trump has flirted with the idea of running in the 2028 election, despite the constitutional limit on presidential terms. The 80-year-old president, who has frequently discussed the possibility of a third term, told a Pennsylvania crowd on Tuesday that he would like to run again.

The president claimed that Democrats “cheat like hell” before saying, “Maybe we should run again. Should we run one more time?” He added, “I’d like to do that. I’d like to, but I got more votes than any candidate in the history of Pennsylvania. Can you believe that vote?”

This is not the first time the president has expressed interest in seeking a third term. A month ago, he said that he would remain in office beyond 2028 (via HuffPost). Trump’s ally Steve Bannon also advocated for a third term for the president. “He’s gonna get a third term,” Bannon told The Economist last year, “Trump is gonna be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that.”

Trump also told NBC that many people want him to seek a third term.

“I’m not looking at that,” he further told reporters on Air Force One in March 2025. “But I’ll tell you, I have had more people ask me to have a third term, which in a way is a fourth term because the other election, the 2020 election, was totally rigged, so it’s actually sort of a fourth term.”
