The actor stated he knew about Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel as Doctor Doom long before the studio announced it publicly. The Spider-Man star, who has a reputation for accidentally revealing Marvel secrets, shared that he only confided in his wife, Zendaya.

While speaking to Cinemania, Tom Holland recalled receiving the exciting call from Downey Jr. and immediately passing the news along to his longtime partner. “I think I hung up the phone and said to Zendaya, ‘Downey is coming back,’” he said. Although he remains tight-lipped about the details of future Marvel projects, Holland admitted he’s eager to see how RDJ’s return will affect Peter Parker and the larger MCU.
In fact, the celebrated actor also revealed on the Rich Roll podcast in 2024 that he was among the select few people Downey Jr. personally informed about his Marvel comeback. Knowing his reputation for spilling secrets, Holland joked that avoiding the press helped him keep the surprise intact. “That was a tough secret to sit on because I have a reputation for ruining things,” he said.
Holland and Zendaya have been busy promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This much-awaited Marvel movie is set to hit theaters on July 31. Before that, the pair will also be seen together in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, arriving on July 17.
