Tom Holland recently opened up about whether he would like to play 007 in the next James Bond movie. The actor is currently busy promoting his upcoming film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” with co-star and partner Zendaya. Since Daniel Craig stepped away from the role of James Bond, the internet has been rife with speculation about who the next Bond will be.
Tom Holland sets the record straight on whether he wants to play James Bond
In an interview for the July/August issue of Esquire, Tom Holland spoke about whether he would like to play 007 in the revamped franchise. He said, “I mean, of course, I’m young and British, and, you know, I’ve always been a huge fan of espionage movies. I’ve grown up with all of the Bond films, and I remember going to see Casino Royale for my birthday.”
Barbara Broccoli, long-time producer of the Bond movies, recently also stepped away from the franchise. Amazon has taken over the series of films, and Denis Villeneuve has been announced as the director of the next installment. Holland mentioned that he has only one stipulation about playing Bond. He said, “The thing I’ve found really difficult is that Amy Pascal is producing that movie,” describing Pascal as his “absolute ride or die.”
“She has shepherded me through this process in such an amazing way,” he added. “I am trying to be respectful of my relationship with her, and that this is a professional thing. I don’t want to overstep in any way. So I don’t know, but it’s something I do think about.”
However, despite his ongoing commitments to the Spider-Man franchise, Holland said that he is willing to play Bond. He told the outlet, “I think if you were lucky enough to get that job, like, who am I to turn my nose up at the most iconic British character in modern cinema?” Holland has a busy summer ahead of himself with the upcoming release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”
