Netflix is setting the table for a Hot Ones interview, starting with an upcoming series. The streamer has confirmed the release date of its new live iteration of the popular YouTube show.
How Will Ferrell opens Hot Ones: Extra Heat after the MLB Home Run Derby
The series, officially titled Hot Ones: Extra Heat, premieres on July 13. It is a significant expansion for host Sean Evans, transplanting his notorious “wings of death” challenge directly into Netflix’s major live events calendar.
Hot Ones: Extra Heat launch will piggyback on one of summer’s loudest sporting spectacles. As Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Home Run Derby wraps up its Netflix live stream, Evans will waste no time turning up the heat with a very specific brand of aftershow programming.
Will Ferrell will step up to the hot sauce gauntlet alongside Fortune Feimster and Jimmy Tatro. The trio appears as the cast of the upcoming Netflix comedy series The Hawk, creating a direct promotional bridge between the streamer’s scripted content and this new talk format.
The format transplants Evans’ signature 10-wing challenge out of its familiar confines and into the chaos of tentpole events. Episodes will run 30 minutes, keeping the researched deep-dive conversations intact while letting location dictate new possibilities (via The Wrap). Netflix has teased unannounced guest drop-ins.
Evans framed the expansion as a natural escalation for a format he believes demands a bigger canvas. “As a student of the late-night genre, I’m obsessed with the art of the interview, and believe that these conversations warrant a level of scale and spectacle that sometimes can’t be contained by a studio,” he explained, emphasising that the Netflix deal preserves the Hot Ones DNA while pushing its boundaries (via Netflix Tudum).
While Peacock currently licenses several archival episodes from the flagship series, and Evans continues his weekly YouTube releases, Hot Ones: Extra Heat carves out a distinct space designed specifically for the live-streaming era.
