Despite his apparent aggressive stance towards Iran, Donald Trump seemingly convinced Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk that he won’t be waging war on the Middle Eastern nation. A recent report has claimed that the President gave his word to the duo about practicing restraint against his urge to attack Iran before ultimately going back on the same.
New book reportedly claims Donald Trump’s assurance to Tucker Carlson
According to an upcoming book penned by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, the POTUS once assured both the renowned political commentator and the Tesla CEO that he would not declare war on Iran during an Oval Office meeting with the two.
The book noted that even though Tucker Carlson had been critical of Donald Trump, the latter “solicit[ed] Carlson’s advice, believing he still had sway over a significant portion of the base,” as per The Guardian.
“Carlson had criticized Trump for refusing to knock [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu over the Gaza carnage; now he would make clear to the President that a broader war would be his ruin,” Haberman and Swan mentioned in their account. “‘They want you to go to war with Iran,’ Carlson said. ‘We’re not doing that,’ Trump answered.”
Additionally, Trump reportedly told Carlson, “I don’t think there’s ever been an American President as powerful as I am.” This prompted the far-right pundit to reply, “‘Certainly not since FDR. Really, the only thing that could wreck it is war with Iran.'”
Moreover, Haberman and Swan’s book mentions how Donald Trump “regaled” Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk with lengthy details of injuries caused in the 2024 pager explosion attack orchestrated by Israel. A golden pager gifted by Benjamin Netanyahu to Trump reportedly “transfixed” the tech mogul.
Titled Regime Change, Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan’s work will be published in the US on Tuesday. In addition to covering the dynamics surrounding Donald Trump before he declared war on Iran, the duo’s expansive report also contains detailed excerpts about Situation Room meetings regarding the Jeffrey Epstein controversy, as well as alleged attempts made by the Republican leader to suspend legal rights during the height of his immigration crackdown.
