UK PM Keir Starmer Resigns After Trump Preempted His Announcement

In a shocking turn of events, Sir Keir Starmer has announced his decision to resign as UK PM, just two years after his historic general election victory with the Labour Party. More surprisingly, Donald Trump had already announced that such a development would take place in one of his customary weekend social media rants on Sunday.

Keir Starmer announces his resignation

On June 22, during a press conference outside his 10 Downing Street residence, Sir Keir Starmer confirmed that he would be resigning from his post as UK PM and as head of the Labour Party.

He started by detailing some of the achievements his administration had achieved in the past two years, including strengthening the economy, advancing infrastructure, increasing defense spending, and more. Starmer then noted, “The question my party is asking now is whether I am best place to lead us into the next general election. I have heard the answer of my parliamentary party to that question. And I accept that answer with good grace. Every decision I’ve taken has been about putting the country I love first. That is why I will resign as the leader of the Labour Party,” as per BBC News.

Starmer also explained his plans to accept nominations for his successor before the summer recess, which would ensure that “a new leader will be in place before Parliament returns in September. I will remain in post as prime minister until the contest is complete.” He additionally pledged his “full and unequivocal support” to his eventual successor so that they are “able to ensure the Labour Party secures a second term in office.”

Notably, Starmer’s declaration comes just one day after Donald Trump preempted the call via a Truth Social update. “Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well,” he wrote.

After concluding his speech announcing his decision to resign as UK PM, a visibly emotional Keir Starmer hugged his wife of 19 years, Victoria.
