Kate Middleton’s Medical Records Targeted for ‘Financial Gain’ — Report

Princess of Wales Kate Middleton’s medical reports were allegedly targeted for “financial gain” by one of the hospital staff. The incident occurred back in 2024, when the princess was admitted for abdominal surgery. After two years, the authorities have concluded their investigation and offered a statement.

Hospital worker reportedly targeted Kate Middleton’s private medical records for money

In 2024, a staff member at The London Clinic in London reportedly accessed the private medical records of Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) after she underwent abdominal surgery there. The employee allegedly offered to share the information with others in exchange for money (via The Mirror).

The incident was reportedly discovered by the hospital, which immediately informed Kensington Palace and launched an internal investigation. The UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), was also notified within the required 72 hours. Subsequently, they began a criminal investigation.

After a two-year investigation, the ICO concluded that the healthcare worker illegally accessed sensitive personal information. Instead of prosecuting the individual in court, the ICO issued a formal caution. They said that “caution was the appropriate and proportionate enforcement response.”

Furthermore, the worker has since been reportedly dismissed from their job. Their name has also been struck off their professional register, meaning they can no longer practice in healthcare.

The breach occurred in January 2024, shortly after the princess was admitted to the hospital for the surgery and stayed for 13 days for post-op care. At the same time, King Charles III was also a patient at the hospital for prostate treatment. However, the hospital assured that the incident was isolated and the king’s medical information was not accessed.

While this is the first reported breach, the hospital was previously criticized for making it easy for its employees to access patient medical records. But when Care Quality Commission officers made an unannounced investigation into the matter, they concluded that the data is “stored securely.”

In March 2024, Kate Middleton revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had begun treatment.
