Keanu Reeves’ Most Overlooked Samurai Movie Is Leaving Peacock Very Soon

One of Keanu Reeves‘ lesser-known action movies will soon leave Peacock. The film, which arrived in theaters in 2013, is set to depart the streaming service next month. Its upcoming removal gives viewers a final opportunity to watch the film on the platform before it leaves its library.

47 Ronin is leaving Peacock next month

Keanu Reeves’ overlooked samurai epic 47 Ronin will soon be leaving Peacock. The fantasy action film is scheduled to exit the streaming platform on July 1, 2026.

Directed by Carl Rinsch, 47 Ronin was released in U.S. theaters on December 25, 2013. It follows Kai, a half-breed outsider who is taken in by Lord Asano after being discovered in the forest. Raised in Ako alongside Asano’s daughter Mika, Kai grows close to her as the years pass. During a visit from the Shogun and Lord Kira, a witch allied with Kira manipulates Lord Asano into attacking his rival.

The act leads to Asano being ordered to commit seppuku, while his loyal warriors are stripped of their status and become ronin. Oishi is imprisoned, Kai is sold into slavery, and the clan is scattered. One year later, Oishi is released and convinced that Kira was responsible for the plot against their lord. Oishi, Kai, and the other ronin set out to seek revenge.

The cast includes Keanu Reeves as Kai, Hiroyuki Sanada as Yoshio Oishi, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Yoshinaka Kira, Rinko Kikuchi as Mizuki the Witch, Ko Shibasaki as Mika Asano, and Min Tanaka as Lord Naganori Asano, among others.

Upon release, 47 Ronin received largely negative reviews from critics. The film currently holds a 16 percent critics score and a 48 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned around $152 million worldwide, including around $39 million from domestic theaters.
