Prince George will carry on a major royal tradition as he prepares to attend Eton College. He’ll be following the same path his father, Prince William, once took. The prestigious educational institution is known for its rigorous academics and emphasis on leadership, sports, and character.
Prince George to attend Eton College just like his father Prince William
Prince George will be attending Eton College, walking the same halls Prince William did years before him. On September 6, 1995, the press documented Prince William’s first day at Eton. He arrived with his parents, Charles and Diana, then the Prince and Princess of Wales, and his brother Harry.
Kensington Palace has confirmed that the 12-year-old Prince is headed to the £63,000-a-year institution this September. Prince William was the first senior royal to attend when he enrolled in 1995, and Prince Harry followed three years later in 1998.
As reported by Sky News, Prince William and Princess Catherine weighed the decision for a long time. They reportedly visited multiple schools before settling on Eton. Marlborough College, Catherine’s alma mater and a co-ed school, was also among the options.
However, location played the deciding role. Eton sits just over the Thames from Windsor Castle, making it a quick 15-minute drive from the family’s Forest Lodge home. Its convenient location allowed Prince William to stop by Windsor Castle for tea with his grandmother during his school years.
Eton’s 2025/26 fees hit £21,099.60 per term for three terms, the school website shows. However, Eton’s alumni list is a who’s who of British power. At least 20 British prime ministers have attended, from Sir Robert Walpole in the 1700s to modern leaders like David Cameron and Boris Johnson.
Other Old Etonians include George Orwell, Eddie Redmayne, and Damian Lewis. The school is also known for its time-honored traditions. Students still wear formal tailcoats as part of the uniform.
Prince George currently attends Lambrook School, a private prep school in Berkshire, where he is a boarder. His younger siblings, 11-year-old Princess Charlotte and 8-year-old Prince Louis, are also enrolled there.
