Every Year After Boss on Why [Spoiler] Leaves, Talks Season 2 After Cliffhanger Ending

With the explosive ending of Every Year After, leaving a slew of questions in viewers’ minds, showrunner Amy B. Harris has come out to shed light on the abrupt departure of Percy (Sadie Soverall) from Barry’s Bay after falling apart with Sam (Matt Cornett). In a recent interview, she broke down the arcs of several pivotal Every Year After characters, while also sharing tidbits about a potential Season 2.

During a recent discussion, the veteran producer described how Percy’s secret, which forced her to leave everything behind, actually serves a deeper narrative purpose.

In Every Year After Episode 6, viewers learn that a heartbroken Percy, after parting ways with Sam, ends up sleeping with Charlie (Michael Bradway), her now-ex-boyfriend’s elder brother. However, she fails to bear the massive guilt of betraying Sam in such a way and decides to cut off all contact with her lover and leave town.

“We knew from day one we were going to be ending [with] Sam and Percy not together,” Amy B. Harris explained to Deadline. “I very intentionally kept them standing apart, so we know, for the audience they’re getting a version of a happy ending, but for us in our journey as storytellers, this is just the beginning for them. We have lots more story to tell.”

Moreover, Sam’s real-time reaction to the truth sets up the driving conflict between the couple in a potential Every Year After Season 2. “If we’re lucky enough to have a season two, they’re not settled, right? [Sam] still has feelings about what happened between them, and I think that is going to make their relationship complicated in the best way, and her guilt still should,” Harris remarked, adding, “I really want to explore the challenges of being in a couple.”

While Prime Video has yet to officially greenlight a sequel installment, Amy B. Harris has said that she would also like to explore “the love triangle between Jordie, Chantal, and Delilah” in the potential Season 2.
