King Charles Faces Dilemma Over a Royal Funeral & His Birthday Parade — Report

King Charles is facing a dilemma after receiving tragic news of a family death last week. The funeral coincides with the packed schedule of the King’s birthday parade. Last week, Lady Pamela Hicks, his first cousin once removed and a bridesmaid of the late Queen Elizabeth, passed away at the age of 97. Now, the monarch has to navigate the already packed day.

King Charles reportedly faces a tough decision of choosing between a Royal family funeral and his birthday parade

King Charles is reportedly facing a dilemma over a death in the family and his own birthday parade. Last week, King Charles received the news of Lady Pamela Hicks’s passing. She was King Charles’ first cousin once removed and a bridesmaid of the late Queen Elizabeth. She was 97 years old.

Lady Pamela’s funeral will take place on Saturday, 13 June, 2026, according to reports. However, that is also the day of Trooping the Colour, the King’s official birthday parade in London.

The King is slated to take the Royal Salute at around 11 am, before watching the Fly Past by the Royal Air Force at 1 pm. This means he has a packed afternoon on the day. Meanwhile, Lady Pamela will be laid to rest at Brightwell Baldwin Church in Oxfordshire. This is scheduled for 3 pm.

This will put massive pressure on King Charles for attendance. While difficult, this will not be entirely impossible for the monarch. For instance, just a week ago, the King made an incredibly speedy turnaround after attending the marriage of Peter Phillips, his nephew. Within an hour, the King arrived at Epsom in Surrey for the races.

The King previously released a statement via a Buckingham Palace spokesperson on the occasion of Lady Pamela’s passing. “His Majesty was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Lady Pamela Hicks, a sorrow tempered by the fondest memories and deepest gratitude for her long life and loyal service to Queen Elizabeth,” the statement said (via Hello!).

“The King and Queen’s thoughts are with Lady Pamela’s family, as they mourn a woman whose warmth, wit and perspicacity always made such an impression, and who will be so dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.”
