The internet has given its verdict on the Octagon built in the White House for the UFC Freedom 250 event. Netizens have taken to social media to mock the arena, calling it “sh*t.” The controversial event is part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Internet slams ‘lit’ White House UFC arena
The White House is gearing up for the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 event, which will take place on June 14. A temporary arena for the fight, or the UFC Octagon, often referred to as the cage, has been built on the South Lawn.
Journalist Aaron Rupar recently shared a short clip of the structure in an X post on June 10. He captioned it as “the White House’s UFC arena is all lit up tonight.”
Needless to say, the internet has given its thoughts on the new UFC cage. Several netizens have reacted to the image, mocking the structure. YouTuber Jack Cocchiarella commented that the White House UFC arena “looks like sh*t.”
One user commented, “The white house has truly turned into a circus,” while another said, “The White House now looks like Las Vegas.” A third user noted, “This is just so disrespectful and inappropriate.”
In a recent interview, UFC president Dana White called the structure “The Claw.” It was originally built in Belgium and then shipped to Philadelphia, before the parts made their way to Washington DC. This custom structure reflects White’s vision for the event, he says (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“All I want to see during this fight is the White House, the full White House,” White stated. “I don’t want to see a light, a microphone, any type of rigging, and if the fight goes the other way, I want to see the [Washington Monument], that’s it. Those are the only things I want to see,” he added.
