What Charles Barkley said about ESPN after the Cardi B joke

Charles Barkley dared ESPN to fire him after he made an inappropriate joke about Cardi B during the NBA Finals. Sports radio personality Dan Patrick asked Barkley if anyone from management pulled him up for his comments (via Entertainment Weekly).

Barkley replied, “Dan, you know, I’m hoping they fire me. I got six or seven years left on my contract that they know I’ve got no chance of doing. I would love for them to fire me and have to pay me for the next six or seven years.”

The NBA legend continued, “I was talking to my agent. I was like, ‘What can I do to get fired, but they’d have to pay me for the whole six, seven years?’ And I said, ‘I would love to get fired.’ I’m not gonna lie.” “I know if they fired me, they’d have to pay me all of those years. And I’ve heard through the grapevine that I make great money,” he added. Barkley concluded that if people don’t like him and don’t vibe with his sense of humor, they can “kiss his a**.”

For those unversed in the controversy, during Cardi B’s halftime performance on Monday, Barkley couldn’t resist making a provocative comment. The 63-year-old said, “I don’t know if those are B’s. They might be Cardi D’s. I’m pretty sure those aren’t B’s. She’s got the wrong initials.”

The “Drip” rapper seemingly responded to Barkley’s comments by sharing a post on X about both of their names trending that night.
