The Shards Release Date Set for Ryan Murphy’s Seductive New TV Show

The Shards, a new seductive TV show from creator Ryan Murphy, has found its release date. It’s based on Bret Easton Ellis’ popular 2021 thriller novel of the same name.

When is the release date for The Shards?

The Shards TV show is set to premiere on August 5, 2026, on FX and Hulu. The series comes from 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Productions, reports Deadline. It is expected to explore themes of obsession, seduction, and suspense.

Set in 1981 Los Angeles, The Shards follows 17-year-old Bret Easton Ellis during his final year at the elite Buckley School. However, his world is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious student, Robert Mallory. His activities end up coinciding with those of a serial killer, known as The Trawler.

The official logline for The Shards reads, “Set against the vivid backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles, the series follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school as they navigate identity, sex, jealousy, obsession and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence.”

As for the cast, the show features Igby Rigney, Homer Gere, Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, and Graham Campbell. Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood, and Jordan Roth are also playing crucial roles.

Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Bret Easton Ellis, Eric Kovtun, and Scott Robertson serve as executive producers on The Shards. Additionally, Nissa Diederich, Tanase Popa, Nick Hall, Michael Uppendahl, Max Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young are also executive producers.

Interestingly, The Shards is not the only new FX show based on popular books. The Beauty, a body horror TV show that was released earlier this year, is based on an Image Comics series of the same name.

The network has previously released several other acclaimed book-to-screen adaptations, such as 2024’s Shōgun (based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell) and 2023’s Justified: City Primeval (based on the 1980 crime novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, by Elmore Leonard).
