On Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, comedian and host Jon Stewart gave his thoughts on Donald Trump abruptly ending an interview with NBC News. The president shockingly exited the “Meet the Press” interview on Friday following a heated exchange with host Kristen Welker after she probed about his claims that the 2020 election was rigged against him.
Stewart said that the interview began with a “reasonable question, ridiculous answer” about the war in Iran. “But then we get to a moment when the heartland, rainswept rom-com becomes a man trapped in a barn with his worst nightmare, a woman who won’t stop asking pertinent questions,” he joked.
The comedian went on to slam Trump’s claims that he did not run for another term to start new wars. He then played several clips from the president’s 2024 campaign trail. The clips show the president promising that the U.S. would stay away from any conflicts if he returned to office.
“But this reporter on this day had the temerity to mention to Donald Trump that, well, actually, he did say that all the time,” Stewart said. “She just lit the fuse on the bulls— bomb,” he mocked, mentioning Welker’s persistent probe.
Trump’s interview with Welker became increasingly tense as the latter questioned him about multiple controversial topics, including his claims of a rigged 2020 election and his $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund.
Becoming frustrated with the interview, Trump called Welker “the fake dirty press. (via Variety)” He stated, “I don’t know what’s going to happen with the weaponization fund.” Before storming off the set, Trump said, “You’re a one-sided crooked network. Sorry. Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.”
Reacting to the abrupt exit, Stewart said, “Donald Trump didn’t storm out because of the rain.” The Daily Show host added, “He stormed out because he was challenged, not because he was distracted. So maybe it’s time we stop making excuses for that man in order to preserve access to his constant bulls—.”
