What do we see in the trailer for Tom Hiddleston’s new Disney+ TV show?

The first trailer for Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston sets the stage for the series. The show will be set in two timelines, connected by Hiddleston’s exploration of Pompeii’s buried ruins. Behind-the-scenes footage from the trailer shows the crew filming fictional scenes with a cast in period-appropriate costumes. Hiddleston describes himself as a “time detective” in the show, attempting to connect all the dots and demystify the city’s history.

“Tom is digging into the past to find these remarkable stories of survival,” says Kevin R. Wright, executive producer on the series. The show will be directed by Tom Barbor-Might, who also serves as its showrunner.

Hiddleston explains his decision to make the series in the trailer, saying, “We all think we know the story of Pompeii, right? The volcano of Mount Vesuvius erupts, buries the city and it’s entombed in ash for eternity. But I didn’t know that people survived. That was the light bulb for me, that’s why I wanted to make this series.”

Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston will stream on Disney+ and Hulu at an unknown date.
