Justin Hartley Is Developing a New ABC Crime Series While Tracker Continues to Thrive

Justin Hartley is adding another project to his growing television portfolio. The actor-producer will reportedly back a new ABC crime series while Tracker remains a hit. The upcoming drama is based on a bestselling novel and will bring together several experienced television creators. The project is still in development, but key names behind the scenes have been revealed.

While continuing to lead and executive produce CBS’ Tracker, Hartley is also helping bring Isabella Maldonado’s 2024 novel A Forgotten Kill to television, Deadline reported. The adaptation is being developed for ABC, with Hartley producing through Change Up Productions under his deal with 20th Television.

Diana Son, whose credits include Butterfly and Line of Fire, will serve as a writer and executive producer. Ken Olin is attached as both an executive producer and director, while author Maldonado will also serve as an EP.

The book centers on FBI agent Dani Vega, a former Army Ranger who has a knack for spotting clues and cracking tough puzzles. She teams up with NYPD detective Mark Flint, and while their opposite styles help them tackle complicated cases, there’s also a little spark between them. Away from the job, Dani is dealing with a deeply personal family secret that could turn her life upside down. The novel is the second book in the writer’s FBI Special Agent Daniela Vega series.

It seems Isabella Maldonado isn’t just writing crime stories from imagination. A retired police captain, the author spent more than two decades in law enforcement and made history as the first Latina captain in her department. Over the years, she worked as a hostage negotiator, precinct commander, and even led Special Investigations and Forensics, giving her books some real-world credibility (via Deadline).

Meanwhile, Justin Hartley is riding high with Tracker, which remains one of the most-watched entertainment shows on network TV. Before becoming Colter Shaw, Hartley won over audiences with his role in NBC’s Emmy-winning hit This Is Us.
