Spider-Man‘s new powers in Brand New Day might be scarier than anything the MCU has thrown at us. The upcoming sequel reportedly introduces a transformation that could change Peter Parker forever.
Spider-Man rumored to become Man-Spider in Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will reportedly feature Peter Parker’s transformation into Man-Spider. Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello claimed on X (formerly Twitter), “Peter IS turning into Man-Spider in Brand New Day. First time in live action.”
Previously, rumors suggested that Man-Spider wouldn’t be in the movie. But the latest rumor from MTTSH contradicts those ahead of the film’s release.
The first trailer did hint at Parker undergoing a physical metamorphosis. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker now shoots organic webbing instead of relying on synthetic web fluid, like his multiversal counterpart played by Tobey Maguire. His eyes turn black in shots, and his webs appear strong enough to slice through a katana. So, it’s likely for the latest scoop to be true.
Since Hulk is also rumored to get bigger as he transforms into Grey Hulk for this one, Peter might need that Man-Spider upgrade to stop him. However, despite the infamous scooper’s track record, Man-Spider’s appearance in the movie should be taken with a grain of salt, at least until a new trailer is released.
Man-Spider first appeared in Marvel Fanfare #2 in the 1980s as a result of mutant experiments on Peter. The character gained more prominence in the ’90s Spider-Man: The Animated Series. In that show, Dr. Connors warned Peter that his spider mutation had not stopped progressing. Peter eventually developed four extra arms, shot acid from his mouth, and produced webs from every limb. He ultimately transformed into a towering, multi-limbed creature with fangs and little control over his instincts.
The animated storyline also introduced the Punisher, who hunted the creature alongside Kraven the Hunter. Jon Bernthal now plays the Punisher in Brand New Day, and the trailer shows him clashing with Parker. Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner appears to take the role of the doctor developing a cure for Peter’s condition.
Brand New Day already features a packed roster of characters and villains. Michael Mando returns as Scorpion, while Marvin Jones III plays Tombstone. Sadie Sink joins the cast in an undisclosed but reportedly significant role. AMC Theatres recently revealed the film’s runtime at 150 minutes, making it the longest Spider-Man film to date.
It swings into theaters on July 31.
