How Nancy Guthrie Case Impacted the ‘Today’ Show, Hosts Explain

The “Today” hosts recently revealed how Nancy Guthrie’s case brought them closer than before. Reportedly, Sheinelle Jones stood by her colleague, Savannah Guthrie, after she learned about the latter’s mom’s alleged kidnapping case. According to the 48-year-old, she chose to “rally around” Savannah because she did the same for Jones. Furthermore, co-host Bush Hager shared that the “Today” family was worried about the 54-year-old journalist and her missing mother.

‘Today’ show hosts claim Nancy Guthrie abduction brought them all closer

Nancy Guthrie’s case has broken her daughter Savannah’s heart, but she has found a support system in the “Today” show colleagues. Co-anchors Sheinelle Jones and Bush Hager told Page Six that the abduction of their co-worker’s mom has brought the show’s people closer. All of them came out in support of Savannah and have been trying to find ways to help her.

“We’re going to rally around our sister. She rallied around me. We know how to do that here,” Jones said. She shared how Savannah supported and comforted her when Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, was hospitalized. Moreover, the “Today” host explained that she and her co-anchor of “Jenna & Sheinelle” formed a stronger bond while worrying about Nancy Guthrie’s case.

“In any other matrix, it would’ve just been about us and the show,” Jones said. “But we didn’t have time for that. I didn’t have time to worry about my hair or whether I was being funny. Real life was happening,” she added.

Meanwhile, Hager mentioned that they had to talk about Savannah’s mother on their show. It was personal to them as they had been “thinking about her” every day. “How could we not talk about it? It was what was happening off camera,” she claimed.

Moreover, Hager mentioned that they didn’t want to “act like things are OK.” According to her, Hager and Jones “adore” Savannah, so they also have had a “hard time” learning about her mother’s case.
