An R-rated black comedy film featuring Jennifer Lawrence will exit Netflix soon. The star-studded movie’s exit is due to the streaming juggernaut’s reshuffling of its library for next month.
American Hustle is leaving Netflix next month
American Hustle, featuring Jennifer Lawrence in a major supporting role, will be leaving Netflix on July 1, 2026, as per What’s on Netflix. Other scheduled departures that day include Bohemian Rhapsody, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the Madagascar films, and My Best Friend’s Wedding.
The film first premiered in the United States on December 13, 2013. Following its release, it became a big box office success, grossing approximately $251 million worldwide.
Moreover, it garnered widespread critical acclaim, reflected in its impressive scores on review aggregator websites. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 92% “certified fresh” approval rating on the Tomatometer. Meanwhile, it holds a robust 74% audience score on the Popcornmeter. Meanwhile, Metacritic has assigned it a similarly remarkable Metascore of 90 — denoting “universal acclaim” — and a “generally favorable” user score of 7.4.
Furthermore, the film received a whopping 10 nominations at the Academy Awards but failed to win any. These include Best Actor for Christian Bale, Best Actress for Amy Adams, Best Supporting Actor for Bradley Cooper, and Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence.
David O. Russell directed the film, marking his and Lawrence’s second collaboration following 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook, which also featured Cooper. The pair worked together again on Joy, which was released in 2015.
Inspired by the FBI Abscam operation of the late 1970s-early 1980s, the story follows two con artists. Coerced by an FBI agent, they set up a complex sting operation to trap corrupt politicians, including the Camden, New Jersey mayor, played by Jeremy Renner.
In addition to directing, O. Russell also co-wrote the screenplay. Meanwhile, Megan Ellison, Charles Roven, Jonathan Gordon, and Richard Suckle co-produced the movie.
Apart from Bale, Adams, Cooper, Lawrence, and Renner, American Hustle also stars Louis C.K., Michael Peña, Jack Huston, Shea Whigham, and Alessandro Nivola, among others.
