Fan-Favorite Sweet Magnolias Star Is Exiting Days Before Season 5 Debut

Sweet Magnolias has experienced a major cast shakeup ahead of Season 5. A beloved star has left the romantic drama, which returns to the small screen very soon.

Carson Rowland leaves Sweet Magnolias

Carson Rowland, who plays Tyler “Ty” Townsend in Sweet Magnolias, is not returning for Season 5, which arrives on June 11, 2026. Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson told Us Weekly that he made the “decision” to exit the show. Previously, his role in Season 4 had reportedly been scaled back.

While the actor himself has not addressed his exit and the exact reason behind it, fans have shared their sadness. This is especially due to the fact that the last installment saw Ty and Annie finally confess their feelings to each other.

One follower commented under the actor’s latest Instagram post, “Cannot believe that we won’t see you on season 5.” Meanwhile, another wrote, “Im going to miss you in sweet magnolias omg.”

Yet another requested him to return to the show, calling him a “big part” of the story. Expressing their love for Ty and Annie forming a relationship in Season 4, they asked the actor to “think over” returning for Season 6.

However, Anderson promised that the series would work around Ty’s absence with a meaningful story, stressing she and the creatives “wanted to make the best of the situation.” She added, “[They wanted to] look at what happens when people leave the people they love to chase a dream.”

Meanwhile, Anneliese Judge, who plays Annie, emphasized that she and the cast were supportive of his decision to exit. She reasoned that he “had some other opportunities” she was excited for him to pursue. The actress continued, “He’s a really, really good friend of mine, and so that’s something that’s really exciting for him and for all of us. We’re all still so supportive of him.”

Sweet Magnolias Season 5 will see most familiar faces return. New additions include Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Janice Wesley, Courtney Grace, John Gabriel Rodriquez, Aidan Merwarth, Austin Woods, and Iman Benson.
