President Donald Trump attacked CNN over its coverage of his Iran peace deal. He accused the network of misrepresenting the agreement’s nuclear provisions. Trump posted a lengthy complaint on Truth Social, claiming CNN falsely reported that his Iran nuclear deal contained no mention of nuclear matters — a claim the network stands behind.
Donald Trump calls out CNN after Iran peace deal coverage
The row began during a segment on CNN Newsroom. Anchor Jessica Dean told viewers that Donald Trump “is seeking changes to the text of a potential deal, insisting on tougher language on Iran’s nuclear commitments and plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.”
Correspondent Julia Benbrook had earlier provided details on the framework under discussion. She reported that sources said a memorandum of understanding could extend negotiations by 60 days on key issues, including “Iran’s nuclear program” and “the fate of the stockpile of highly-enriched uranium.” Benbrook also relayed that a White House official confirmed Trump would only agree to a deal that “addresses his red lines,” specifically his position that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.
Donald Trump took issue with what he saw as a misrepresentation of the agreement’s content. “Fake News CNN said today, routinely, that my Iran Nuclear Deal doesn’t talk about Nuclear, when actually it states, very clearly, that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon,” he wrote. “It then goes on, in very strong and lengthy detail, to discuss various other aspects of Nuclear. In fact, that’s what most of the agreement is about.”
The president also broadened his attack to include the network’s overall performance. “CNN, and so many others in the Fake News Media, is a Low Ratings disaster,” he wrote. “Even with new ownership, it is unlikely to ever get better!!!”
The Daily Beast approached for a response, and a CNN spokesperson said, “We stand by our reporting.”
