Donald Trump just scrapped a major Cabinet meeting at Camp David, and the reason might surprise you. The president cited weather concerns as he moved the high-stakes gathering to the White House amid escalating Middle East tensions.
Donald Trump moves cabinet meeting to White House
President Donald Trump canceled his planned Cabinet trip to Camp David, citing possible bad weather conditions, CNBC reported Tuesday.
Trump announced the change on Truth Social, confirming the Wednesday meeting would instead take place at the White House. The president and his top officials had originally planned to gather at the woodsy Maryland retreat. A White House official told the New York Post that officials intended to discuss “recent successes of the administration including economy and small business wins, Task Force to Eliminate Fraud highlights, and foreign policy updates.”
The decision came hours after U.S. forces conducted strikes in southern Iran early Tuesday local time. U.S. Central Command stated the actions were taken in self-defense to “protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.” The U.S. and Israel’s ongoing war in the Middle East remains a key discussion topic for the Cabinet.
Trump had claimed Saturday on Truth Social that a U.S.-Iran deal “has been largely negotiated.” He later softened his stance on Monday, writing that an agreement “will either be a great and meaningful one, or there will be no deal.” He also warned that failed negotiations would mean going “Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened “one way or the other.” He added that further talks on deal language could “take a few days.” Trump also posted Monday that he was “mandatorily requesting” several Middle Eastern nations “immediately sign the Abraham Accords” to normalize relations with Israel. Pakistan already rejected the proposal.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who announced her resignation last week due to her husband’s illness, had planned to attend the Camp David meeting. Her attendance at the White House session remained unconfirmed.
