Donald Trump Draws Attention for Iran Remarks at Memorial Day Ceremony

President Donald Trump honored fallen soldiers at Arlington. His pointed Iran war comments stood out. He used his Memorial Day address at Arlington National Cemetery to pay tribute to Gold Star families and fallen service members, but it was his remarks about Iran and the ongoing war that drew attention.

Trump acknowledged the American lives lost during the Iran war, referring to the operation by name without identifying the fallen by name. “In Operation Epic Fury, we lost 13 wonderful souls, wonderful special people,” he said. “These incredible men and women gave their lives to ensure that the world’s number one state sponsor of terror will never have a nuclear weapon.”

He then added, “Oh, and they won’t. They will never have a nuclear weapon.” Trump’s more direct warnings to Iran came via Truth Social, where he cautioned that should peace talks collapse, the fighting would return “bigger and stronger than before.”

The president also drew a comparison to what he called a swift U.S. victory in Venezuela, claiming the operation resulted in no American casualties. Trump, alongside Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, led the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington.

Trump stayed largely on script, centering his speech on honoring those who served and died for the country. “There could be no Independence Day without Memorial Day,” Trump said, referencing the first clash between American and British forces at Lexington Green and the sacrifices made during World War 2.

He individually recognized several service members during his address, including Staff Sgt. Keith Ware, a descendant of Medal of Honor recipient General Keith Ware, who later died in combat in Vietnam. Trump also honored Harry Miller, a 97-year-old Battle of the Bulge veteran, and Sgt. First Class Matthew McClintock, credited with leading a daring medevac rescue during the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan (via The Independent).
