Donald Trump honored the 13 U.S. service members killed during the Iran war as part of the traditional Memorial Day observance at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday. Pete Hegseth and JD Vance joined him at the event. However, what instantly made headlines was a gesture by Trump. He was apparently seen dozing off during Hegseth’s speech. The clip immediately went viral on social media, and he was brutally trolled for taking a nap at the event.
“You can’t blame him. He is bored. He never had any interest in whatever anyone says since he doesn’t like to listen. He only wants to speak,” said a person on X (formerly Twitter). Another individual mentioned, “Trump is a senile old man who falls asleep at the drop of a hat like most old people his age.” A third remarked, “In fairness, he only stays awake when he is talking or when it is about him.” Meanwhile, the fourth pointed out, “He’s just blinking….for 20 seconds.”
However, this is not the only time when the president has been caught apparently sleeping amid an event. He also fell asleep during an Oval Office discussion on maternal health and fertility. The picture of him with closed eyes immediately sparked online speculations. But soon after, White House’s Rapid Response 47 account reacted to the post, saying, “He was blinking, you absolute moron.”
Even in December 2025, footage from a two-hour Cabinet meeting showed Trump repeatedly closing his eyes while senior officials addressed the room. But Trump later denied the claims, saying, he “didn’t sleep.” “I just closed (my eyes) because I wanted to get the hell outta here,” he said at the time, as per Firstpost.
